It had taken time, but it was finally ready. Remy hadn’t completely solidified his plans until he had asked and gained agreement from Jaya that she could make it tonight. The man meant she had, however, he had reached out and made contact with those involved.

The day of their date, a small package came to the Goddess for Jaya. The wrapping was nondescript as all of Remy’s gifts came wrapped, just soft brown paper around a charcoal box. That it contained jewelry was obvious; Jaya had received enough such boxes, in different colors and styles, to know what it was even if she hadn’t known to begin with. This one was elegant, thin and undecorated.

Within the surprisingly light box was a letter that lay over the gift that Remy had sent her.

Jaya,

I was hoping you’d wear these tonight.

Looking forward to seeing you.

Yours,
Remy

Under the letter lie a set of jewelry, a hair comb and matching earrings, gold and studded with cantarian lagoon crystals.

He was, as always, prompt when he arrived at the Goddess to pick her up for their date, dressed sharply in a tux, grinning even as he stepped inside the building and looked for Jaya.

Jaya smiled in pleasure as she opened the box and looked at the jewels. She was Orion, and it made her happy to know that her man was courting her with expensive presents. Especially fine jewels, that she could wear, silently pointing out to the other Orions in the Hub, and back in her home universe, that even though Remy was a Terran, that didn't mean that he didn't do things in a civilized way.

The jewels of course, didn't give her nearly as much pleasure and joy as the man who'd given them to her, and Jaya put special care into her dress, choosing something that would show the gifts she'd given her to best advantage. When word came that she'd arrived, she walked out to meet him, and lead him into the family quarters, smiling at him, and releasing enough of her pheromones that he'd know exactly how she felt.

"Hello, sweetness." she said, just before she embraced him and gave him a tender kiss.

Remy had given Jaya many gifts since they had met, some were simple, inexpensive things that spoke to the fact that he had thought of her while he was away, others were pieces of expensive jewelry. All had arrived wrapped and carried by messenger directly to her. This gift was different; the box more elegant, the interior velvet. The comb and earrings were older and finer than the other gifts she had received from the thief.

He knew that the moment he stepped into the Goddess, someone would pass on the word that he was there. Still, he strode to the bar and greeted those he knew with an easy smile until Jaya came to greet him.

The moment he saw her was evident; his grin stretched, his eyes lit up and he turned to her, watching as she approached. He followed, of course he followed her; they weren’t in a rush, really, he’d made sure they’d have plenty of time.

It was easy to get lost in kissing Jaya, but tonight, Remy was focused; he had a plan, after all, and so the kiss was tender with heat behind it, but it was tempered. “Evening, Chere. I hope yo’ don’ mind, but I t’ought dat I would take yo’ out tonight.”

"Of course." Jaya said, quickly making the mental adjustment. She had absolutely no objection to a night on the town with Remy, she'd planned on a night in because both of them were busy, and had jobs that involved being out and about and in public-sometimes it was pleasant to just be alone and quiet. But it was also nice to go out with Remy, knowing that most of the males they'd encounter would envy him, and most of the females would be equally jealous. "Where are we going?" she asked curiously.

He had shown this place to very few people; he hadn’t brought a date there even before he had started seeing Jaya. Tonight, he was downright excited to bring Jaya to the place he’d been hoarding away for a special occasion.

Because tonight was meant to be such a night. One worthy of something like this.

Had tonight been just a date, an evening to spend together quietly, Remy would have been happy to have come to the club, had a few drinks, and follow Jaya to where it was quiet and private for the rest of the night. But Remy had plans for tonight.

“Somewhere special.” The answer might not have been concise, but Remy was smiling widely and confident that Jaya would trust him enough to come with him. “Es no’ en de Hub, but es not far.” Like the gentleman he was, he offered Jaya his arm to escort her out of the club. Yes, most of those around them would be jealous. Let them be, Remy didn’t mind that.

He’d taken liberties tonight. A carriage awaited them, small and delicate, but strong nonetheless, made of an alloy alien to Remy’s world but common enough in others, crafted to look wooden and to be light enough for a single horse-like creature with a silver mane and tail to carry them to the portal. For his own part, Remy had dressed as elegantly as he had hoped Jaya would, and had. He wore primarily black, but with deep red accents that matched the colors of his natural eyes, which he did not hide tonight.

On the other side of the portal was a large building, tall and grand, topped with a dome made of glass-like crystal. Above them, the skies were purple and pink, shifting, swirling, and mingling even as Remy lead Jaya to the maitre d’ and exchanged a few words before they moved into the room, following another man who lead them toward a table.

Jaya grinned with pleasure when Remy told her that where they were going was a surprise. She liked surprises, and the ones that Remy came up with were always delightful. Taking his arm, she followed along as he lead her towards a portal, where a...what was the word? oh, yes, carriage was waiting.

She didn't understand why riding in an archaic conveyance was something that Terrans considered to be romantic, but she understood that this was the case, and that Remy was doing it as a sign of affection, and that made her happy. And the experience was certainly interesting.

The carriage ride was a novelty, an oddity, but the sky above them, the colros and patterns dancing as she watched. She could have watched it happily for hours, and with the clear dome above them. Although, she had to admit as she took her seat, it was entirely possible that she was going to spend most of the night focused on the man in front of her.

Remy wasn’t entirely certain why carriages were considered romantic, but they were, and he was intent on doing all of this “right” for Jaya. It was all just for show, of course, but if Henri saw the carriage, he’d recognize both the gesture as well as the meaning, and that was a large reason why it was a carriage and not a car or just a stroll through Hub to the portal. Tonight, everything Remy had arranged was a sign of affection. The carriage, the place, the food, everything.

The club was as upscale as Remy had been able to find. There were other sorts of high class establishments, but none of those felt right for what Remy had in mind. Here, they could eat, dance, talk and no one would pay them much mind. Jaya was far from the only ‘alien’ here. In fact, most of the patrons of the club were from off-world, be it from this universe or others; the people around them were in all sorts of different colors, shapes, and sizes.

For most patrons, the sky was the draw to this place, this whole world, and the natives had taken that fact into account when they had created this place. The entire building was encased in the dome that was open to the sky, but the best vistas belonged to those places that were situated up higher, where you could see more of the sky, even without looking above yourself. Remy had taken one of these such boothes, floating high above the building, with little lifts that took them right to where they needed to go. All around them was the sky, and from below came the music, clear but soft in the background.

Smiling widely, Remy sat across from Jaya, crimson eyes crinkled with happiness, “Es a good surprise, no?”

Jaya smiled with genuine pleasure as she looked at the view, the floating booth both novel and charming. Everything about the night was lovely, and very carefully chosen, and she was starting to burn with curiosity about what it was that was behind this carefully planned evening.

"Yes it is." she replied, her eyes glittering with affection and pleasure "A very lovely surprise."

‘Carefully planned’ was a dire understatement. Remy had painstakingly planned every detail of the night. From the jewelry he’d sent her to wear tonight down to the booth he’d hand picked to sit at tonight, the best seat in the house from Jaya’s seat, showing the sky, the stars, the planet the little moon orbited… If she looked out far, she could just see how the horizon bent with the curve of the moon, how to her right the atmosphere reacted to the sun’s energy, creating dancing lights in the sky. Of course, he spoke nothing of how he had sat in each booth, looking for the view he thought she would like best, or how he had walked through endless bazaars seeking out the perfect regalia for her.

He didn’t mention that he’d tried a taste of each of the wines and dishes the restaurant had to offer before deciding which she would (he hoped) like best, which went the best together, and which desserts would be preferable to the palate after.

There were no menus on the table, but there were two wine glasses, the vintage rare but good, light and sweet on the tongue. They had a few minutes to themselves to talk and enjoy the view before the server came, quiet, respectful, but genuinely happy to serve them, placing plates on the table before each and refilling their wine with a little bow before sweeping away on his lift to his next stop.

Their appetizer was a simple affair, a toasted bread the shape of a star with a dill cream, a red crispy vegetable, and a light colored fish, topped with a single garnish of a deep green herb that smelled of pine and earth.

“I hope you enjoy the food. I took the honor of picking what I thought you’d like.” He smiled, crimson eyes warm. It gave him hope and confidence that she seemed to like the night thus far.

Jaya smiled as she tasted the wine, enjoying the view, the food, the gently attentive service, everything about the evening was wonderful, but best of all was knowing that Remy had arranged everything so carefully. So carefully that it was starting to make her curious, this was beyond his usual careful consideration.

"Everything is wonderful, sweetness." Jaya said, giving his hand a little squeeze, savoring the attention and affection that Remy was lavishing on her this night.

Remy was always careful to plan their evenings so to maximize the pleasure Jaya would receive from an outing. He prepared food he thought she might enjoy, he brought or sent her gifts tailored to her tastes. He had never ordered for her before, though, always happy to make a suggestion but always before he had left her choice to her. Tonight, however, served a unique purpose. Everything about tonight was centered around Jaya, chosen specifically to show her one thing or another. How cherished she was, how beautiful, how well Remy could care for her, how well she could live with him, how well he knew her. The venue was beautiful, yes, but it was rich in culture and served only the wealthiest. The jewelry he had sent her to wear were the finest he’d sent her to date, valued far beyond anything else he’d given her. The carriage was quaint, but arranged so that she would not have to walk even the distance from the Goddess to the portal and something he had suspected she would enjoy if only for that same quality.

Likewise, dinner was a show of how well he knew her. Each dish was chosen specifically to her tastes, not his. Not that Remy wouldn’t enjoy every bite of his food, he would, but he had picked it using the knowledge he had gathered of what she had enjoyed with him in the past. Each course was meant to tell her, ‘See? I know you. I understand you. I care enough to remember, to know.’

It all served a singular purpose, every decision he made for the night all lead to the reason he’d asked her here tonight.

Once they were finished with dinner, before desert, Remy smiled and slid from his seat, standing and walking to where Jaya sat, offering his hand to help her stand if she chose, “May I have dis dance, Chere?”
