Middle of the day, middle of the night, it really didn’t matter to Christian anymore, when it was that he found a need to head out for one reason or another. He still made his way back to Tony’s mansion to sleep in the bed there at least often enough to keep anyone from really noticing that he wasn’t there all that much. He saw Steve in the mornings sometimes, and would slip by Tony wordlessly as he moved from mansion to tower. His most recent projects had been destroyed in the chaos of what seemed to be an entire island of city falling on top of it, but Christian just moved forward, finding his next creation.

But he needed new tools from time to time, new bits and bobs for his work. It wasn’t meant to pass for human, not this time. That had only gained negative reactions from the people who had seen them. Namely, this other Tony who had offered him a place to work. So now, Christian worked on a new project, a different approach than his usual clockwork mechanical creations and more… Smooth.

But he’d run out of some of those few things he needed, and while he knew most of the bazaar would be closed still, it was too late or early for them to be open, he knew of a building in his home borough that would have exactly what he needed.

So Chris moved through the streets with the air of a man who knew his way. He wasn’t expecting those shadowy demon-ghosts to assault him; he hadn’t seen them since that first night here in Hub. A thing of his imagination, or a mass hallucination shared between him, Safi, and the blue eyed Tony. Apparently, they’d been real. Unlike his first encounter with them, however, Christian turned on them with a snarl and a glare, brown eyes dark and furious. He was tired of being scared, tired of following the rules he had laid out for himself when no one else even respected them. He had become caged by his own insistence that he do no harm, but these creatures, they held to no such concept. They only wanted to harm. “Back!” Christian brandished magic against them, his own spells, things that he could imagine doing that others might think ridiculous. Christian fought with magnets and a flask of water that could move another being via magnetic fields and burn another by the power of belief in acid.

Sometimes it takes a bit of crazy to find perfection
The evening was the time to play for someone like Sebastian Blood. Prowling about in the shadows and out of sight of other people – the simply act of watching and observing those around the Hub. There were plenty of people who were strange to him. Different than the mortals he was used to dealing with and different than the metahumans he had learned to tolerate. Being that he’s an immortal, he never truly needed to sleep or rest. His powers and strength returned to him through blood. To touch it or drink it to absorb the life energy that was within the red fluid. He fed earlier upon an unexpecting man earlier in the evening just to tap off his reserve energy.

The evening had mostly been quiet and he didn’t expect much to happen. But movement would eventually catch his gaze and his gaze drifted from the shadows toward the figure moving through the bazaar. He looked to be in a hurry. Chased. He was being stalked by creatures. Sebastian didn’t move to lend aid. Instead he observed as he eventually turned on them and started to attack the creatures. Magic? He hummed from his position before he seemed to dissolve the next instance into mist as he shifted across the field almost like a subtle fog.

He reformed near the man, standing behind his flank as his hand lifted up from his side toward another creature. He called forth the power of the Red and suddenly a streak of red lightning erupted from his arm to electrocute and burn the creature before him. He did not know what they are but he knew that the man before him, if he truly did have the power of magic, could be very useful to control himself and make a new follower for the Cult of Blood. Sebastian was always on the lookout for individuals to rejuvenate his lost following.

”You are in need of assistance.” It was not a question. Sebastian gave the illusion that he was there to lend aid to him. First he would lend aid, then he would see what he could do about manipulating the man himself. Worst case scenario, he could find a way to make the male behind him drink his blood in order to control him against his will.

NOTES: Sorry, sorry. I suck! D:

Magic. It was the only real defense Christian possessed against these… Demons? It was, perhaps, the best word for them, but Christian wondered now if that was really what they were. He knew that demons were made of flesh and blood, that they might be ugly or they might look like anyone else. He knew that they were strong and powerful, but when it came to magic, Christian was also strong and powerful. He knew that he possessed something that was both precious as well as coveted, and he wielded it with a grace that belied just how new he really was at controlling it.

He’d been trained. Agatha from Wanda’s world, Wanda’s teacher, had taught him as well, had shown him wondrous things he could do. John Constantine had taught Christian how to make portals and fight demons. Miss Zatana had taught him how to make alcohol into water and heal others with it. Their first night here in Hub, Safi had fought these creatures with nothing but courage and Christian’s magical reflective shield, turning their own attacks back at them.

So he turned on them, wielding magic and rage, a shield enveloping him, protecting him from attack and promising retribution to any who tried to do him harm. And then another man was beside him, also wielding magic against the creatures. With a snarl, the magician stepped forward, snapping his fingers at the creatures, his arm snapping down and out toward them, sending a loud, magic fueled ‘boom’ at them, sending them scrambling backward from both sound and concussion.

“I’m fine.” The words were nearly growled, his brown eyes, usually so soft and warm showing nothing of the kind tonight. He didn’t truly turn toward his ‘savior’ until the creatures had been well and truly routed, but then he finally did, offering his hand dutifully to the only man who had bothered to come and help him, regardless of his actual need. “Thank you for your help. I’m Christian.”

There was an anger in the man behind him that seemed to fuel his magic against the creatures. He could feel the tension behind his back but the immortal wasn’t concerned. Not really. He was Brother Blood and he knew his fate unlike any other. His death would be at the hands of a son if he ever had one. In his mind he had nothing to truly fear other than that. There was a wave of power form the magician behind him – signaling the attack on the creatures that were around. The power of the Red erupted from Sebastian’s grasp and arced across the field in a terrifying boom of crackling red lightning – destroying two creatures it struck and dissuaded other from getting too close.

Sebastian was a sorcerer to some degree. He didn’t have the versatility of wielding a multitude of black arts but he still had some powerful magical abilities. If there ever was magic that he needed to wield; all he needed to do was simply find an individual with the power and harvest their ability through their blood. If magic was not what was necessary he had physical strength that allowed him to be on par with the likes of Superman provided he stayed out of the sun. Sebastian was a threat on both a magical and physical front. He had learned from his banishment that he shouldn’t rely on minions to do his deeds. He was fully capable and far more powerful than any under his control.

The creatures that seemed to have been stalking the night were dealt with. It came with relative ease between two individuals wielding magic and when the dust settled, Sebastian turned around to see a hand being offered to him and an introduction. He glanced down at the hand before he grasped it with his own and lifted it up. Sebastian’s lowered down until his lips brushed Christian’s knuckles lightly before he released the hold he had on Christian’s hand. ”Sebastian. Quite an impressive display of your magics, Christian.”

That little voice that was always there, forever in the back of his mind murmuring to him spoke the truth when it said that Christian enjoyed it, just a little bit, chasing away the dark, threatening creatures. That feeling of being powerful, even if he hadn’t actually harmed any of them. He could have. He knew he could; he could have thrown acid on them or used his magnets to throw them high into the air or against something more solid than they were. But he hadn’t needed to, and he knew it. They knew it.

Christian had trained and studied, but he was a magician in his genes. Even before he had even known he could do anything special, before he understood what magic was or how to wield it properly, he had made his little machines and toys come to life. Now, he could do so, so much more… It wasn’t enough, though. Nothing he had accomplished had moved Safi. Nothing he had done had so much as earned him a smile or praise from the soldier. Who had worked with mages in the past. So Christian studied ever harder.

Looking at Sebastian, Christian couldn’t help but to notice one thing: the man was damn pretty. He knew, as taken as Safi had seemed to be when he’d called him beautiful, men didn’t prefer to have that word used for them, but it was true nonetheless. Chris offered his would-be savior his hand but instead of shaking it, the man bent and kissed his hand. Damn. Christian would be lying if he said that didn’t do something deep in his belly. But as pretty as Sebastian was, as much as he enjoyed the way the man had treated him thus far, he wasn’t Safi.

He wasn’t what Chris well and truly wanted.

“Thank you… It wasn’t that big of a deal. A thunderclap and shield, really.” They were hardly the most impressive spells he knew; he hadn’t been desperate, just frustrated and angry. “You did very nice work yourself, Sebastian.”

Sebastian was a bit old fashioned at times because he’d been trapped in Hell and missed a great deal of advancement in his own world. He was still learning but sometimes old fashioned manners suited him quite well. He flashed the man before him a smile and a compliment of his powers but Christian didn’t seem as impressed with himself as Sebastian claimed to be. ”Perhaps, but it was enough to chase them off.” He couldn’t help but wonder if the mage before him had more power under his fingertips than he had used. He had done things that didn’t obliterate his enemies.

”It was a simple matter. I’m afraid my magic is not quite diverse.” His hands settled into the pocket of his pants and he gave the man before him a thorough lookover, ”Yet you used a means to chase them off rather than destroy the creatures.” His head tilted up slightly as though he seemed to become thoughtful of the matter.

”May I ask why you chose that route? The creatures seemed dangerous. You managed to protect yourself, but using such methods only means they’ll just bring harm upon others in the future.” Perhaps the male before him wasn’t the type that cared to protect others; however, in Sebastian’s experience, there always seemed to be an influx of those who had powers who valued doing ‘good’ rather than being careless toward others or to harm others.

Old fashioned was good with Christian. In the south, they had very particular manners that the rest of the country didn't understand. They viewed Cotillion as backwater and old fashioned. Chris had learned to adapt, acting a certain way in central and in Hub, then relaxing when he was at home or visiting Belle. He begged off the compliment; he didn't do anything very complicated or powerful... There was little he could do to impress the people he wanted to impress. Offering Sebastian a smile, Chris shrugged, "Sure, which was the goal, so I guess it was good."

Not diverse. Chris blinked at the statement; magic could do whatever you could imagine, or at least, that's how he understood it,{thus far, that line of thinking had proven accurate. Instead of arguing, Chris just nodded. "I prefer not to destroy or harm people." There was no judgement against Sebastian for not feeling the same way; there were few who did. Chris shifted, shrugging, "I'm not... I just don't. I..." He blinked at the assertion that the creatures may just harm someone else. "Then I would stop them again." He wouldn't leave someone else being attacked behind it wasn't in his nature, but neither was killing the creatures.

Sebastian couldn't only do what the Red allowed him to do. Essentially is was blood magic or the ability to control the blood around him even if it was still in a vessel. It also had the power to conjure red lightning. When it came to other magics, it depended on who Sebastian fed on last. He could temporarily harvest the abilities of others if he fed from them.

He seemed to hesitate when Sebastian pointed out that by no killing the creatures Christian was allowing them the chance to do harm onto others. Sebastian feigned a look of surprise when he was told that the man before him would protect other people who might get attacked by them. "You have the ability to keep track on them at all times?" Surely the man before him realized how naive his bravado truly was.

He couldn't be at all places at once and as such those creature would attempt and succeed in attacking other people. The only true way to prevent that would be to eliminate the threat indefinitely. The solution was simple but it require someone to follow through with it's execution.

Christian wasn’t limited by anything but his own imagination. Over the time since he’d learned about what magic actually was, when Miss Zatara had taught him that he could do more than just bring his little creations to life, Chris had found himself able to do more and more with his magic. Except make himself invisible, which was quickly becoming a sore point for him. It was what he had wanted, more than nearly anything else, when she’d told him it was possible. Invisibility, and to be able to heal Belle. Those were the important things for him, at least at first. Now, it was less important, but it was a needle under his skin that he still wasn’t able to pull it off.

Sebastian was right. By letting the creatures run away, Christian was leaving them free to attack other people. People like Belle or Safi, who wouldn’t necessarily be able to chase them off without help. He did know that the creatures wouldn’t continue to chase people once they left the woods. They only stayed here in the Gotham-like area of Hub. So… He gave Sebastian a rather angry, toothy grin and pulled out several small clockwork robots from his satchel, leaning down to let them scurry from his hands and into the woods to keep an eye out for the creatures, and to make sure others weren’t harassed by them. “Yes, actually, I can.” He could make more of the little bots, allowing him to watch over more and more of the woods… It would work. Each of the smaller robots was connected to Jonah, and through Jonah, to Christian. If one found one of those creatures doing something bad, it would alert Jonah and Chris to it, and Chris could come help. Challenge accepted, and met, Sebastian.
