It was easy to get swept up in the energy that so many of the people in Hub gave the atmosphere. There was the gnome that sold strange looking concoctions in the Bazaar, the green men and women of the Green Goddess, the sweet little cafe run by the southern redhead, and of course there was her not-uncle Tony’s tower and his AIs. Lori wanted to visit him, but she wasn’t sure how she’d be received, and her uncle Tony had given her leg a thorough go-through when she’d been back last. But by far, Lori’s favorite place was Justin’s.

It had nothing to do with the fact that she had a crush on the sexy doctor Avenger. He was interesting, and he was fun, and he could fly, which was something that Lori had always wished she could do. And now, oddly enough, she could do exactly that on her new motorcycle. (Ha! Keep up with her now, Hawkeye!)

Flying over Hub, Lori felt free and unfettered from the world, from her troubles, from everything. But she always came back down, landing gently at the curb of Justin’s office with a grin before… Tripping.. Her foot had gotten stuck in the space between the exhaust and the actual bike, and of course she hadn’t felt it, it was that foot. With a yelp, Lori crashed to the ground, the bike falling over and landing on top of her, her prosthetic pulling away from her leg. “Damn it!” the word were spoken, rather loudly, in frustration even as the archer just laid back, staring up at the sky for a moment. What was wrong with her lately? She just felt… Off.

Justin was coming to hate his new location.

Oh, not the Hub, of course. The Hub could draw anyone in with the mysteries, novelties, and sheer strangeness that you could find. No, Justin was remembering that he just wasn’t cut out for life in a hospital anymore, even a multiversal one. His crappy little apartment was cramped, low-tech, and just emphasized that he was on his own here. Tony didn’t want ‘the freeloaders’ around, Steve was going to side with Tony (or at least defend him, which was just as infuriating), and he just didn’t seem to fit with anyone else here. No one else knew him… well, except Wanda, who seemed set on rooming with real-Tony, which… no.

Bottom line? He was going to have to find something else, and soon, before he went crazy.

On the other hand? There were definitely things he did like, and one of them he could hear landing her bike outside.

Justin walked outside in time to see Lori’s grace in action, and he winced when he saw her leg stay put while her body kept moving. That was a new one. Obviously, he hadn’t ever had a chance to study her leg up close (they hadn’t gotten THAT intimate yet), but he hadn’t gotten any ideas that it came off easily. That seemed like a design issue that Tony would have built to avoid, after all. He was ready to walk back inside and let her have the illusion that she’d gotten away without being seen, but then she just lay back on the ground, looking… well, looking pretty defeated, truth be told. That really wasn’t like her…

As she looked up at the sky, Justin walked over, leaning over her head into her view. “Is it naptime already?” he asked with a wry smile. Then, walking around her, he reached down, offering his hand to help her up. Of course, he had no idea if her leg just slipped back on, but either way, the first step was to get up off the ground.

Lorelei had only left the tower because she had thought Tony (not her Uncle, but Hub Tony #1, who was actually almost-Uncle Tony) didn’t want people living there. So she’d found herself a little apartment of her own, settled in, and was fairly happy. Usually. Today was becoming another less than stellar day very quickly, what with this little mishap heaped upon the last few things that had gone wrong in some catastrophic way or another, nothing big mind you, just… Frustrating.

Landing the motorcycle went fine, at least. She touched down gently, landed, and everything was fine right up until she went to dismount, and then everything went to shit. It had been such a good morning, too. Except that her breakfast was stale and she’d run out milk. And her favorite shirt was still in the dryer because nothing had gotten all the way dry. And… Yeah, okay, today was just… Messy.

So she’d figured to cheer herself up by coming out here and visiting Justin. And that had worked. Her new motorcycle was a dream, and flying was fantastic! She’d been grinning as she landed, her usual happy and enthusiastic self until everything had gone wrong.

Seeing Justin earned another, albeit smaller, smile from the archer. The doctor was always a welcomed sight. He spoke, and she wrinkled her nose slightly, “Please. Naptime is best done on a couch with cheetos or a pizza on the way with a good movie on the tv and a comfy pillow.” Hey, it was true, and Lori would be the first to admit that she was entirely her fathers’ daughter, and that meant that she had inherited some of the bad habits along with their good ones. She took Justin’s proffered hand, “Thanks.” Surprisingly, Lori had pretty good balance, even with only one leg. Lots and lots of practice. Her leg slipped back on, though there were catches to keep it in place, a quick jerk tightened them into place, though apparently the rumbling of the bike had jostled them loose, allowing them to come undone. It was weird, but it wasn’t entirely out of the realm of possibilities, Lori supposed. “That’s a first… Never had it just pop off like that before. Not this one, anyway.”

Cheetos and a pizza… Justin just smirked, remembering what he’d seen Clint’s rooms looking like back at the mansion. “Yeah, you really are your father’s daughter,” he joked. Apparently, the leg was easy enough to get back on, so Justin just stayed there, making sure he was in a good place to lean on while she was adjusting herself. If nothing else, it was entertaining to watch, even if he couldn’t let on that it was amusing him.

“Well, I guess that’s just what you call craftsmanship these days,” he joked as she finished the job up. Was Tony’s tech beyond state of the art? Oh god yes. Was Justin going to pass up an opportunity to throw shade at the guy, particularly after the whole ‘freeloaders’ fiasco? Hell no. Of course, now that he was going to do that, he was going to have to find some way to counter the inevitable ‘well it’s better than anyone else could do’ thing, which… was admittedly much more problematic, since he wasn’t a scientist. On the other hand… He was a surgeon, with access to all kinds of futuristic and alien tech, and… Well, now that he considered it, there were a few possibilities, weren’t there.

“Too bad, though, I thought I was going to have to carry you inside. Lost opportunities,” he teased, then turned his attention to her bike. “How’s the sky-cycle working for you?” It did look a good deal like the model that the team on his Earth had used, though he couldn’t be positive. The paint job did style it up a bit, and he hadn’t ever needed a sky-cycle for anything. “This one have all the bells and whistles? Auto-pilot, voice operation, all the things a flying archer needs?”

Cheetos or a pizza! Though come on, really, both foods could be eaten on the same day. Or in the same evening, even. She saw the smirk and pouted at him, “Of course I am. They raised me.” She gave him a grin, weaker than it would normally be, but there was heart behind it nonetheless. Lori might not have needed to use Justin for support, leaning on him as she put her leg back on, but that didn’t stop her from shamelessly using the support he offered. Totally her father’s daughter, and she knew it.

Smirking, Lori shrugged, “I suppose, but it beats hobbling around on crutches, or crawling.” She didn’t really stand up for her uncle’s tech, she didn’t need to; Justin was just joking, and her uncle would have rolled his eyes rather than feel the need to get defensive. But she spoke the statement with the surety of having experienced those alternatives, and no, she’d take a well made prosthetic over being down one leg anyday. Besides, her uncle was incredibly intelligent, if there were a better way to deal with her leg, he would find it eventually.

“Apparently a girl has to be helpless, or at least legless, to get a ride?” Her smile was growing as they bantered lightly. It felt good to get out and away and see someone who made you feel lighter. “Oh, the bike is awesome. Lori didn’t really recognize the ‘sky-cycle’ part, but it made sense, so she didn’t think too much on it. When he asked about the bells and whistles, she blinked, “Justin, it’s a motorcycle that flies! It is all the bells and whistles!” Still, she frowned, looking at the bike. She hadn’t really thought about any of those things, and now… now she wondered if it had them. Auto-pilot especially. Voice operation? Yowzer. “So… I have no idea about the other things. I just know it flies.”

Well, then, if she wasn’t going to object… Justin smirked and scooped Lori up off the ground without further ado, carrying her easily around to the driver’s side of the bike. Looking over it, he sent his thoughts back to the times he’d seen Clint getting one ready in the hangar. “Okay, yeah, right there, there’s a panel,” he said, shifting her so that he had her tucked into the crook of one arm and pointing with the other. “It’s… a little different than I remember, but that looks mostly like what I always saw Clint using when he’d get the thing to fly for him so he could shoot.” He looked at her, tucked into his arm there, smirking a little. “You tried riding that thing and shooting yet? I could give you a moving target, if you want,” he teased, that mischievous glint coming into his eyes. Okay, now he was definitely being overly cocky, but why not. He didn’t think she’d actually use a lethal arrow to shoot at him… plus he was really good anyway. He figured if he could avoid shots from Clint, he could avoid them from Lori, too, right?

Of course she wasn’t going to object; a ride from her favorite seriously strong, sexy doctor? Nope! When Justin swept her up off her feet, Lori laughed brightly, her mood not taking exactly a 180, but she was definitely feeling better than she had when she had landed. She wasn’t dead weight in his arms, shifting and holding herself in order to make it easier for Justin to carry her, but also leaning slightly to pay attention when he pointed things out about the bike and how it worked. What it could do… Damn, it was so much better than just a flying motorcycle!

The offer of a moving target was tempting. So tempting; it had been so long since she’d had an actual challenge, but… “I’m… Not sure that’s a good idea, Justin.” She winced, because no, she wouldn’t use lethal arrows, and she certainly wouldn’t want to hurt him, but things hadn’t been turning up aces for her lately. Not that she thought she’d miss; that just didn’t happen, but that didn’t rule out other things. “I’ve been having, um, difficulties. Weird ones. Like my leg - that’s not supposed to happen.” The worst thing was that it wasn’t going away, either. “Weird, huh?”

The way that this place worked, Justin had to wonder just where this bike had come from. Was it from his world? Hers? One like it? Some dystopian world where Hydra was saving the world from Captain America and his… hell, how did you make ‘Avengers’ sound evil? Was it real? Okay, he was pretty sure it was real, yeah, it didn’t come from the weird ‘not real’ part of the Hub, but still, those were the questions this place made you ask.

And maybe he was just running through questions in his head so that he wouldn’t have to think about resisting the urge to shift his arm again so his hand was on Lori’s bottom. He was a red-blooded male holding a hot girl in his arms. He was going to get tempted, sue him.

“Oh, come on,” he said, grinning. “You’ll be flying, not running, you won’t have a chance for your leg to seize up or something. The only thing that can go wrong for you is if you can’t hit me…” He smirked, and this time he did give her bottom a little smack. “Unless that’s what you’re afraid of. Think you can’t catch the silly flying guy? Maybe dodging is something I can’t manage to screw up,” he teased.

Lorelei hadn’t actually stopped to consider where the bike had originated. She had won a wish from the weird deck of cards the wizard had run, and she’d wished for the bike, and there it was. For Lori, it had been that simple; she’d won the thing fair and square. And hey, maybe the bike did come from some strange but still similar world. Maybe a world where she wasn’t an Avenger, where her parents had never found her or something. Hell, maybe a world where they had never even met, as unnatural as that felt to the young woman.

There was no complaint from the archer about being carried around by the sexy doctor. Her attention was on both him as well as where they were heading. Sure, she trusted Justin plenty enough that he wasn’t going to take her anywhere bad or anything, but that didn’t mean that her natural curiosity just up and disappeared. But that didn’t mean that Justin wasn’t also just as distracting as where they were heading.

It wasn’t like she didn’t want to go practice her bow on a flying motorcycle. She was nearly drooling at the thought of being able to be effective while moving through the air. But the idea of hurting Justin more than just the usual Avengers sparring means you’re gonna get hurt at least a little? Not thrilling. Her voice was softer and just a touch flatter when she muttered, “The thing that could go worse is that you get seriously hurt.” She looked up at him in a little bit of surprise and mock outrage as she poked him lightly in the shoulder, “That is so not what I’m afraid of! You should know better! I’m the daughter of Hawkeye, remember? If I can’t crack you right between the eyes then there’s something seriously wrong with me, and not just a little of this weird clumsiness that’s been plaguing me.”

Why, was this the chance to do something risky and impressive? Yes, it was the chance to do something risky and impressive! Was that a good way to impress a girl? Yes, it was a good way to impress a girl!

Oh, and also, Justin was an Avenger and she had just seriously insulted his capabilities.

“You know, that would sound a whole lot better if Hawkeye would have been able to land a shot on me,” he countered. “As it is? Nope, he might be the best shot there is, but that doesn’t mean he can hit everything. So I guess the question is if you think your dad’s a better shot than you or not. I tell you what, you crack me between the eyes? I’ll give you my cape. I won’t deserve it anymore. Just don’t use a sharp arrow and we’ll be fine, right? Come on, I’ve taken on Ultron, Kang, Thanos, you name it, and I’m still here. You think I can’t handle getting cracked by an arrow or two?” He smirked, then gave her a little poke in the side. “Come on. You manage to hit me? You can have anything you want. Anything. Isn’t there something you want on top of being able to prove you’re a better shot than your dad, or at least the your dad from my world?”
