“I create liffffeeeee!” Shuri’s back bowed backwards fingers curled into claws a maniac laugh echoing through the lab space. The purple veined portal cleverly embedded into her own set of security protocols to keep anyone from accessing the portal from the other side; keyed to each person's individual Kimoyo beads, even if they were stolen or taken it wouldn’t activate without the owner.

And because Shuri was no man’s fool each person had an alarm that would sound on the Wakandan side bringing swift response from Dora Milaje.

Taking a huge breath Shuri straightened a huge manic grin “So i vote not me first.” As though she honestly expected ANYONE of the others would ‘allow’ that.

She was ssoooo going to be second though.

——-

Passing through the portal Shuri was too fascinated by the simulation of New York.

What would become clear later was that a second portal had been generated in the new Wankandan district but since Shuri had been honing in on Parker and Coulson it opened where theirs had.

…which was outside a Stark tower currently on fire.

“Woah!!”

Bucky couldn't help the chuckle that Princess Shuri inspired with her dramatics. He'd say she was only doing them to amuse her audience, but he was also relatively confident he had heard her cackling at night when no one else was there. It was strangely endearing, and he had to bite his lip to not grin at her how he'd like to. (Bucky didn't want T'challa getting the wrong idea of Bucky's intentions. (certainly it would be an apt idea of his desires... But there was a difference.))

"Most Impressive Princess Shuri." He offered quietly. Bucky wasn't surprised she had managed, but then she had managed to wipe his programming from his mind without functionally changing him- which he had thought was impossible. So Shuri wasn't able to surprise him as much as she used to.

When she commented that she didn't want to go first, Bucky stepped forward. "I believe that's the cue for the expendable member of the trip." He remarked with a grin before moving to step through. "I'll message back if it's safe." Bucky offered before moving through without hesitation.

Standing on the other side, he tapped the message into the beads he was still learning to understand as he processed the area around him. As the others came through, he posed a quick question. "Princess Shuri- what are the chances you'd be willing to wait here?"

Bucky barely finished his own question before taking off at a sprint towards the tower. T'challa and Okoye could care for themselves- and Shuri was smart enough to know not to run into the fire. The question was whether her patience would tolerate the time it took Bucky to make sure the tower was cleared of people and animals.

T'Challa didn't like this one bit. Shuri and Bucky were spending way to much time together. At least this time, Shuri had invited everyone with her to test her portal and a stimulation of New York.

Black Panther waited patiently for his sister to set things up. His brown eyes were on Bucky. He stared at the man like a panther after it's prey. His older brother instincts were not happy.

The portal was set up and Bucky stepped through, followed by the rest.

T'Challa was impressed initially. It looked exactly like the real New York. At least what he could recall from the few times he had visited.

Just as the group was settling into their new surroundings, there was fire at Stark Tower. Bucky was quick to sprint toward danger. The King gave Shuri and Okoye an arched eyebrow in annoyance before initiating the Black Panther habitat and sprinting after Bucky and into the building.

Shuri and the, as the younger royal called him, ‘broken white boy’ had been spending more and more time together. Sergeant Barnes was appropriately polite and grateful to Shuri, and she seemed to like him quite a bit. Most importantly, Barnes hadn’t been inappropriate with her younger charge. Okoye was… Pleased. It only made the entire situation more amusing to see just how far the opposite way her king leaned toward the two. T’Challa might never admit to it, but he didn’t want his little sister to grow up, and this situation only pointed out quite succinctly that, against all of his wishes, Shuri was doing precisely that.

It was better than television.

The portal that Shuri had created was as Sergeant Barnes said: most impressive. Okoye watched both of the royals, Making certain that neither simply leapt through or did any other silly thing. Both of them were prone to such acts, after all…

Barnes’ offer to go through first was unsurprising. The man felt himself expendable. He had yet to learn that in Wakanda, no life was considered so, not the way he did. He would learn. Still, it was him or Okoye that must go first, and Barnes was offering, so she simply nodded silently, crossing over to the other side with the others once he messaged back saying it was safe to do so.

Of course it would be New York. Okoye moved immediately, spear out, checking around the group for any hostiles. While the other three members of her little party focused on the building that was on fire, Okoye noticed something else: this might seem like New York out in front of them, but elsewhere resembled...other places. This was definitely an interesting place. Over there, she could see Wakanda, and further away, there were places she didn’t recognize, or only knew from stories; books and television and movies. Odd. And dangerous.

Barnes of course ran toward the burning building. He had friends inside, as well as those who weren’t his friends. T’Challa’s own sprint forward was more of a surprise, but Okoye drew up to stand next to the princess, glancing to the side toward her, “It seems that they believe you will simply stand here and wait for them.” Okoye knew better, but she wouldn’t leave Shuri without protection. Wherever the princess went, Okoye would also go - T’Challa was the Black Panther, and he had Barnes with him. That would have to do for now.

Shuri just rolled her eyes as the men decided to run head first into the building that was...you know ON FIRE. Don‘t get her wrong she got it, she really did, her brother and the white wolf would not be the men they were if they didn‘t run head long into danger like the muscle they were. Thank god for them Shuri and Okoye were there to handle the thinking.

„I am altering the permissions for the portal.“ Her fingers flew over the display from her beads. „Slaving fire control drones to your command General.“ a small horde of the dones that lived in her lab (and the capital city) rushed out of the portal at her digital beckoning.

SHE took over the six search and rescue flyers that popped out first, the bots primary purpose had been till Shuri made mining completely automated had been to deal with cave ins and accidents. Which meant they were perfectly capable of carving into the armored side of Stark Tower if needed, and whose sensors were calibrated to read for life signs through vibranium.

„Brother, I am reading somewhere between three and six life signs but something is-„ frowning Shuri‘s fingers moved faster over the screen, „Brother!“ Shuri‘s eyes went huge, „There is an Active Infinity Stone there!“ Shuri took an abortive step forward.

Thanos had been thwarted months before, but at terrible cost, half the Avengers missing or dead, large swaths of population that had the misfortune to be on the wrong side of the planet when the epic space battle occurred blind or dead.

They had come here following Parker and Coulson who had been intern following the trail left by Tony Stark when he vanished along with everyone else who carried a stone in their last desperate bid to thwart Thanos. Shuri could still remember that desperate 48 hours, when they knew he was coming. The final plan; if all else failed Hawkeye would use the Space stone and send the stones (and very likely the avengers carrying them in Shuri/Stark tech containment units) as far away as possible.

That had been nearly six months ago and no one had seen or heard from anyone who had left the planet that day, the last transmission had been Quill screaming, and Vision simply saying to Clint: „Do It.“

SHIELD and Parker had been sure that at least some of the avengers survived, and had worked like mad men to follow where the trail they through they found led.

Shuri had not been so sure. That didn‘t mean she hadn‘t perfected her own portal to follow peter with much much more sound tech.

It seemed though that Parker had been right.

„I‘m coming in!“ Shuri leaped onto one of the drones, piggy backing on it. This was a fight she would not be left behind again for.

Bucky would have winked at Shuri for her intelligent actions- and sort of agreed to stay outside- if he didn't know that both Okoye and T'challa kept on eye on him at most times. Instead he just smiled quietly to himself as he heard her ordering fire control drones through the portal. It wasn't something he could have done even if he had thought of it... And well. He hadn't thought of it.

Bounding instead into the on fire building, he started taking the steps a good three at a time on his way up. Bucky was certain he'd still be overtaken by the king, but he had no better option, and he intended to work his way down from the top. As that thought settled in, Bucky commed T'challa to agree on a plan of action. "I'll start at the top, if you'll start at the bottom. Cover the floors as quickly as possible that way."

Of course that plan was shot right out the window when Shuri spoke to her brother over. "Hell." He muttered, not pausing with the assumption that he wasn't high enough yet. Was easier to drop full flights than it was to climb them.

"Shuri- What floors?" He responded, using the Kimoyo bead rather than just cursing to himself. And completely forgetting to call her Princess while in the burning building.

T'Challa easily ran past Bucky into the burning building. A smirk on his face that was hidden by the mask. That white boy who should know who he was messing with.

But his smirk soon faded when the thought of Bucky and his sister flirting made him shutter. He wasn't in the right frame of mind. The King nearly ran into a column once inside. He dodged it just in time.

T'Challa looked back, hoping no one saw. He shook his head and began to survey the scene. What exactly was he suppose to be doing?

His concentration broke once again when he heard his sister's voice. Shuri was ending in drones to put out the fire. "Thank you, sister." The buildings structure at in the lobby appeared to be intact. T'Challa raced to the stairs, bounding up a few flights before investigating another floor for anyone in need of rescuing. It still appeared to be clear.

Then he heard Bucky's voice and T'Challa gave a slight growl of annoyance. He beat the King to the question. What floors did they need to be on?

"You call her Princess... don't forget that."

Sure it was childish, but T'Challa would take every chance he got to create boundaries between the two.

Fire control drones. Her princess was a bright young woman, and Okoye was glad to have her so near. At the same time, she also wished that her princess wasn’t near her when there was a burning building so close by.

With a flick of her fingers, Okoye pulled up the digital interface for the fire control drones with her kimoyo beads, already beginning to move, not into the burning building, but nearer to it, drones breaking into smaller groups in order to better assess and deal with the fire, and the larger situation.

She was focused on solving the problem of the fire, and figuring out how damaged the building itself was, if it was going to come down around her king and the White Wolf, when Shuri called out that there was an active infinity stone in the building.

Unlike her princess, Okoye wasn’t sure going into a burning, possibly collapsing building after an infinity stone was a very good idea, but her king was inside, her princess was heading in, and the White Wolf couldn’t be expected to protect the both of them. Damn it. Okoye never hesitated, though; she grabbed ahold of one of the fire control drones, the others flying with it moving to steady her, and sent them, and herself, zipping into the building after her princess.

White Wolf had the right idea; find the proper floor, get there, deal with the stone (and whoever was using the thing if need be), open up ways for anyone else to escape, and get out so that the fire control drones could put the fire out. Hearing her king’s response to Barnes’ question, and how he addressed the princess earned an actual roll of her eyes; T’Challa should be focusing on getting the stone, getting anyone else out of the guilding. Her voice was crisp, clear, and no nonsense when she spoke over the comms, “The princess and I are entering the building with the drones.” That should, hopefully, have her king focusing on what was important; safety, of himself, of the princess, and completing what Okoye was pretty certain was now a retrieval mission as well as a search and rescue.
