A ‘panic button’ that sends him back to his apartment in the Hub. Useful for when he’s about to die. history Walter Skinner grew up an only child in a loving, middle class family in Texas. After highschool he joined the Marines, which was followed by college, then the FBI, where he quickly rose through the ranks. This lead to the two things that would change his life forever. The first was being assigned to supervise Agents Mulder and Scully as they worked on the X-files. The second was the information that the US government had identified, and was monitoring activity surrounding a portal to a place called ‘The Hub’-a sort of gateway to a large number of parallel universes. After a number of years, with the X-files shut down, his career in tatters and his marriage shattered, Skinner made the decision to find out if there was a better universe next door. What he found was a middle man, who, to his surprise, was working with a double of him. The double had been a cop who thought that the promotion and life with a chance of rebuilding a career sounded more appealing than his own dead-end job, so he’d agreed to step into Skinner’s old life. Skinner, not really caring what he did next, had agreed to take the place of a former mob boss who’d skipped out to another universe and just wanted someone to keep an eye on his kid. The fact that Skinner had only slightly resembled the man hadn’t been an issue, and he’d spent a pleasant few months as Al Hawke, before everything went to hell, and he’d moved on to a new universe. That was fifteen years ago. Since then, he’s been all over the multiverse, sometimes stepping into the life of a dead doppelganger, sometimes swapping lives, sometimes just dropping into a universe that doesn’t have a version of him at all. He’s done it out of curiosity, because he was offered excellent compensation, and once or twice because he’d needed a place to hide out for awhile. He’s been everywhere, seen a lot, and has crossed paths with a lot of people.
